Confession #11 - Fruit

La la la la la ........

FRUIT!

Glorious fruit.

Confession: Fruit is my favorite food.

Sweet, crisp, juicy fruit.

Cold grapes from the refrigerator....

Strawberries sprinkled with sugar....

Bananas sliced in a bowl with a little brown sugar and milk....

Hey, because -

:o)

Wild blueberries (aka: "power pellets") on a long walk as a kid through the forest at my grandmother's cottage in Nova Scotia....

Cool, crisp, refreshing watermelon on a hot summer's day....

Feeding my two-year-old daughter tiny clementine slices while she dances around my feet....

Sweet, ripe pineapple....

My first bite of a star fruit as a kid....
(Kind of like a cross between an apple and a tart strawberry.)

Remembering my mouth going numb after eating my first few kiwis....

Sweet white summer peaches....

Honeycrisp apples....

Fruit has the best memories.

.....

Except honeydew and cantaloupe.

And other random melons.

Blechhhk.

Nobody likes melon.

But still -

Mmm, mmm fruit.

Confession #10 - Money Wasters

There was an article on Yahoo yesterday - a story about Adam Sandler gifting his buddies brand new $20,000 Maseratis. (For us who don't know what that is, it's a fancy car.)

This should have brought up maybe a scoff, for me, and a reaction along the lines of "Wow, that's silly" or "Good for him", but it got me thinking, and I found myself boiling over.

Confession: I'm angry when I read about people who waste money.

A lot.

Maybe it shouldn't bother me.

Honestly, I'm not really angry at Adam Sandler. It's his choice! And he's been working at his career forever, climbing that ladder, and earning his way. Those are his friends! Fine with me.

Really, I'm angry at the writer out there who decided that this article was a great idea.

What reaction could be had from this article? Obviously they planned on rubbing someone the wrong way.

That would be me.

I'm not even going to be greedy about it, or jealous. Nope!

Today, I won't even focus on the more politically obvious things that could be assisted with money.

Like the homeless.

Or third world countries, with children starving to death every day or dying from curable diseases.

I'm going to focus on something else, more close and common.

Struggling single moms, right in your neighborhood?

You know - the ones wandering the streets until a shelter opens up in the evening, for them to rest with their children.

The ones who work so hard to make life seem normal, and appear normal, when they are so depressed.

The ones where all they hear are the calls of a screaming baby.

The ones who have a constant pile of diapers that needs to be taken to the trash.

The ones who sigh because the dishes haven't been done yet, and they know they are the only ones to do it.

The ones who are putting on a happy face while they feel like they are so alone, in the darkest most forgotten corners at times.

The ones trying to carry the world on their shoulders, like some fragile Atlas.

The ones wondering sometimes if they are truly crazy, and sob over whether or not they are going to make it.

But don't worry, cushy rich single mom celebrities are feeling comfortable in their homes right now. With their nannies and maids.

Putting all their money to good use, I'm sure.

While the ones who struggle sob at the laundry mountains.

And the endless messes.

The ones who want to be the best mom and give their children a happy childhood, who feel guilty when they have to go to work, but feel like pulling their hair out when their children wonder where their dad is or why he doesn't live with them for the first time.

The ones who also wonder if she can ever trust anyone ever again.

And the ones that battle that feeling you get when you have some free time, and need to take a shower, but feel guilty because any time you do anything for yourself you feel like you are being the "S" word...

But no, no - you have that car!

I'm sure you deserve it.

And I will stay just a little bitter over here.

Little bitter.

Confession #9 - Cute

This post is about CUTE things.

Confession: I love all things cute.

But....

I'm picky about cute things. I'm a little bit of a cute prude.

Take babies, for example.

I know there are people out there who think all babies are just the cutest widdel squishem facies evew.

Lies!

I have seen NOT CUTE babies. It is rare. But it happens.
This doesn't bother me, but I'm not a generalizationer. Is that a word? Probably not.

I'm biased, on thinking my kids are pretty much the cutest ever, but I'm aware of it. They are adorable to me, because they are my babies! And whatever anyone else could ever say, would have no weight on my feelings.

However...

The parents who push their children on everyone else as the cutest ever, when they're not, is just plain uncomfortable.

What do you do? Smile and nod?

Why do you need everyone else to tell you your baby is cute, if you think they're cute already?

I know you're a proud parent.
But please.
Don't ask me to validate your feelings!

Seriously. A baby monkey. I'm melting.

Peek - a - boo = cutest baby game.

Babies discovering everything = cutest.

Babies.

Penguin babies are cute!

Chow chow puppies!! Cutest. This one looks like a panda bear. What on earth made this duplex of awesome cuteness?

Kittens, of course. Cute.

Costumed kittens = eee!

Cute.

Confession #8 - Spongebob Squarepants

SPONGEBOB SQUAREPANTS!

Mildly having ruled almost a decade of my life, I have a confession to make about this tiny, mildly obnoxious sea sponge.

Confession: Spongebob Squarepants will ALWAYS remind me of my sister, Lauryn, and afternoons after school. High school, I mean.

Ah yes, things we hide in school. What we are "too cool" for.

When I was 8 or 9, I hid that I liked Power Rangers and Barney. When I was 14, I used to watch The Magic School Bus.

When I was 18 and 19, I watched Spongebob. With Lauryn. With an after school snack. And jokes. Lots of jokes. And milk-out-your-nose laughter.

Sometimes after swim practice, we would spend some time outside, or have a snack in a giant refrigerator box and watch Spongebob through little holes in the side.

Whatever the case, it will always remind me of Lauryn, because we laughed SO hard, and have so many inside jokes that happened around those after-school-Spongebob-situations.

Good times!

The following is a barrage of images that involve inside jokes only.

Sorry, outsiders.

:o)

The best of two worlds! The best of two worlds!!

Ner ner ner ner ner ner ner!

Spongebob.

More than my son's once-obsession.
